WHAT CAN THE BDDG DO FOR YOU?

The BDDG strongly recommends the programmes and meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous as the basis for everyone’s recovery. However, certain issues do arise for doctors and dentists that may be very difficult to raise in AA or NA meetings

Medico-legal issues, professional shame, fear of failure as a health professional, removal from or restoration to the GMC/GDC Register, anger with patients and/or colleagues and patient confidentiality can be difficult topics to raise at AA or NA meetings.

At BDDG meetings, such issues can be honestly raised in an atmosphere of complete confidentiality as the meetings are covered by our accepted code of medical ethics.

In the early days of recovery, many professionals feel more comfortable in meetings with others of similar education and status. This feeling nearly always disappears as recovery strengthens.
